History

boxer fanner12 300x260 HistoryThe Boxer dog history can be traced from as far as 1880’s from the country of Germany. However, the Boxer dog history was first based on absolute truth before it became theoretical.

A certain George Alt coming from Munich purchased a small Bullenbeisser imported from France. This Bullenbeisser was then brought home to Munich so that it would breed with his local dog. As a result, the two generated Schenken – a female dog that is parti-colored. When Schenken was mature enough, she was paired to a different breed which is an English bulldog. The owners intentionally mated these dogs in order for them to create a breed that has the personality, the physique, and the look they would like to have.

Later on, the breeders decided to breed only puppies that they call as the “all-white” dogs. They thought that the deafness is hereditary and will also affect the following generations as well. This “all-white” breeding started with the Bulldogs that were mated with another breed in order to create an appearance that looks like the Boxer dog that we see today.

The first group that was formed for the owners and enthusiasts of Boxer dogs is the German Boxer Club. In 1896, the club was formed. However, it was only in 1902 when they gave the Boxer Standard or the first criterion for boxer dogs. The great thing about the first standard for boxer dogs is that there is a very little change since it was published in 1902.

There are some Boxer dog history albums and museums that have pictures showing that the Boxer dog have docked tails as well as cropped ears. This feature is common for Boxer dogs that are located in United States. However, other countries where Boxer dogs exist think that this practice is vindictive. That is why they prevented this practice from going on. In countries such as Scandinavia, United Kingdom as well Australia, it is prohibited to crop the ears of the Boxer dogs. On the other hand, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway banned the practice of tail docking for this breed.

A year after, the Boxer dogs were then registered to the American Kennel Club or AKC. During that time, the future governor of the Big City imported the Boxer dog in 1912. This is when people started paying attention to the Boxer dog named Seiger Dampf von Dom. Three years later Seiger Dampf von Dom had the U.S. championship honors and he is the first Boxer dog to have this award.

In 1935, the American Boxer Club was formed. The next year, during the month of May, they became a member of the A.K.C.

There are now several books that tell about the Boxer dog history and the different facts about the Boxer dog as well. These books must be read if you are interested to own a Boxer dog for yourself.
